Machiel Valkenburg is the driving force behind Infinite Horizons. Originally from The  Netherlands, his passion for travel eventually led him to Central Asia, where he’s been living since 2007. There, he found his princess—a wonderful Kazakh lady—and together they have two children, Dion (born in 2018) and Leily (born in 2023). Over the years, he has also lived for shorter periods in Spain, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Based in a charming office in the heart of Almaty, Machiel oversees the daily operations of Infinite Horizons. In addition, he owns and manages Rubythroat Birding Tours, the largest ecotourism company in Central Asia, specializing in wildlife and birding expeditions. With over 20 years of international tour-leading experience, Machiel is the most seasoned guide in the region.

On rare and special occasions, Machiel joins tours, sharing his expertise and love for nature. A dedicated reader who believes knowledge is power, he finds joy and healing in the great outdoors, where photography remains one of his greatest passions.
